dc.description.abstract The world is changing rapidly with the advent of advances inmicroprocessor technology andembedded systems. Human living experiences arebeing transformed into one where seamless integration with connected devicesto our homes, offices and healthcare providers are enhanced. The evolutionof the internet has made regular computers become ubiquitous and amorphousnetworks of everyday machines like refrigerators, washing machines, vendingmachines, and computers, which are actively exchanging information - TheInternet of Things (IoT). One major issue confronting the largescaledevelopment and deployment of the IoT is the lack of standards and commonbusiness models. Therefore, this paper sought to develop Magnum: a modelhub-based home automation system that uses the AllJoyn framework in theUniversal Windows Platform together with web and mobile extensions tofacilitate remote access. Testing and implementation of a prototype provedvery successful, efficient and innovative. en_US
